Neomyxus chaptalii (Eydoux and Souleyet),
as reported by Fowler and Ball 1925. We fol-
low James M. Thomson (ms.) in the use of the
name Chaenomugilleuciscus for this mullet.

We have not observed this species at Johns-
ton, but it is known by local sport fishermen
who have caught it in outer reef areas. Also,
a large individual at East Island has been
hooked on more than one occasion but has
always escaped.
